Stage AE
The environmentalist come pop musician Griff Washburn is bringing Goth Babe to Pittsburgh! He’s bringing the Lola Tour to Stage AE on Wednesday 4th September 2024.
The Lola Tour comes hot off the heels of his highly anticipated 11-track album Lola. Dropped on January 26th, Goth Babe gave listeners a major love-for-the-adventure vibe with tracks like “Bioluminescence.” Fun fact: Lola was named after his sailing boat-come-home.
With his debut album, Washburn doesn't limit the Goth Babe style to a single sound, but keeping a danceable, feel-good psych pop vibe throughout. “Album opener “Neon Trees” offers a gooey sonic preview, gradually mounting layers of programmed percussion, guitar and electronics while Washburn’s voice echoes up top.” - Paste Magazine

“Goth Babe is Griff Washburn enjoying himself,” reads the artist’s Spotify bio. Washburn is an environmentalist come pop musician with a totally unique take on life and he uses his lust for life as the creative force behind his tracks. From psychedelic pop standouts like “Early Mornings,” “Topanga” and “Sometimes” to the feel-good, festival-ready “Weekend Friend,” Goth Babe has carved up a totally unique sound that sits between the dizziness of Gold Panda and the sleek brilliance of Miike Snow.
Taking inspiration from beachy psych-surf titans like Surf Curse and Ty Segall, Washburn started off in the scene alongside his skateboarding buddies. Together, they released their Fuzz Ghost EP on the now-defunct Richmond tape label Ongakubaka Records.
Shortly after, Chattanooga-born Washburn traded the college scene in Nashville for a wanderlust-filled lifestyle. He dipped his toes in cities like New York and Los Angeles before fully embracing the nomadic life. He crafted a tiny house in the countryside outside Portland for himself and his dog, Sadie. But when it sadly burned down, Goth Babe took his nomadic lifestyle to new heights. He mastered sailing and embarked on a 1,200-mile journey down the Pacific to Mexico, with Sadie by his side. He named his sailboat Lola, and the album is a compilation of tracks born from that incredible voyage.
